The Red River Riot is back and better than ever with the focus being the best and most challenging route possible. This is not an official "race" so don't look for prize money, sag ... moresupport, or even rules. Get your spot early to guarantee a shirt and a plate of Spinistry chow. There will NOT be any day of registration. Prereg only please. We're going to give you a great route to follow that will cover up to 200 miles of dirt roads in the scenic Red River area of North Texas. Entry fee includes a great staging area, food/drinks, and will provide directions for everyone to find their way from Point A to Point Z. The long route will be around 140 miles The medium route will be around 80 miles We will also offer a mini route of around 35 miles for those who are gravel curious. Everyone will ride that first 35 mile loop so you can go out for more if you feel up to it. This year we are introducing a true 200 mie "Double Century" option for the truly masochistic. More details on that as the pieces come together. The most current information will most likely be on the Spinistry Facebook page or on Spinistry.com. See you there! REMINDER: This is a self supported ride. There WILL NOT be any aid stations or SAG wagons. Do not attempt this ride if you are uncomfortable being 20 miles from civilization with ZERO support

The Castell Grind is comprised of two separate endurance gravel races, the Full Grind 100K 3/4 Grind 72K Half Grind 50K. All races will begin in Castell following remote gravel roads ... morethrough the rolling Texas Hill Country in the middle of nowhere. You can expect amazing views, wildlife, cattle guards, minimal traffic, adventure and a gravel challenge worthy of bragging rights.

The Castell Grind is whatever you want to of make it. If you've got a competitive spirit, let's see what you've got. Race the course as fast as your legs can turn and your heart can pump. Top 5 male and female in each distance will get awards. If you are just in it for the adventure and survival, no problem as long as you make the cut off. This is an endurance event, it will be very difficult. Do not over estimate your ability or underestimate the difficulty of the course.

90% of the course will be rolling hills on remote gravel roads in the middle of nowhere. The rest of the course will be on lightly traveled rolling farm roads in the middle of nowhere. No single track on this course. The course is desolate except for the occasional farm house. The only refueling stop will be Castell.

Ride what you got, just stay away from skinny road tires. They won't work out there. Cyclocross or mountain bikes will do great. The best size tire for this course will be 34c or larger.

The Full Grind will follow a figure 8 course intersecting through the center of Castell at the half way point. This will be a mandatory check point for all racers continuing on the 100K course. Racers may also use this as a refueling and support stop if they choose to. The Half Grind racers will complete the same north loop course as the Full Grind racers and finish their race in Castelle. The Full Grind racers will complete the south loop returning to Castell and the finish line.

Post race festivities will take place at the Castell General Store.

Bent Wheel Bash in Abilene is coming up soon. We hope everyone is making plans to travel out to our neck of the woods! Come on out early if you can and check out the Specialized Demo ... moreVan. They will be set up at the venue on Saturday, April 2, from noon to 5 pm. They have a variety of bikes on their van that you will be able to test out. Come on out and see what they have to offer! This year, our food vendor will be set up on Saturday from 12-2 and on Sunday from 10:30-2. We are excited to have one of our local food trucks, The Toasted Traveler, come out for the event. You can check them out at http://www.abilenefoodtruck.com.

Camping and RV spots are available – no reservations necessary. There are no hookups, but generators are allowed and showers are available. Propane grills are fine, but the Police Academy asks that there be no open fires. For those who haven’t been to Bent Wheel Bash before, Buck Creek Trails is right next to our local police academy, and the academy allows us to use their land and buildings for our start/finish, expo, and camping area.

Of course, there is always the question of land access fees. We know that Abilene is a bit further for most people to drive, so we try to keep fees down. The land use fee is $10 PER CAR (not per person), so pack everyone in and carpool if you can! We only charge once, so if you come out on Friday, that $10 fee covers the whole weekend. Camping spots are $20 per site for one night or $30 for both nights. So, if you drive out on Friday and camp both nights, the most you will pay in land use/camping fees for one car is $40. The nice part (if there can be a nice part about paying fees) is that all the proceeds from Bent Wheel Bash go to our local police department. If camping isn’t your thing, but you need to spend the night somewhere, here is a list of some hotels close to the trails. There is a rather large country music event going on the same weekend, so if you need a hotel, call soon. We hope to see a bunch of you in Abilene soon!

The end goal is creating a sustainable model to support and expand bicycle racing in the United States.

Our mission is to promote the sport of competitive cycling, and to encourage new participation through the development of local and regional cycling events.

What Does Local do?

Organize competitive cycling events – All Local’s events are sanctioned through USA Cycling and aim to provide the best possible experience to participants.
Event Services – Course setup, charity ride organization, SAG Support, you name it… find out more
Promotion and Marketing – providing marketing services for other competitive cycling events. Services include social media promotion, flyer design, event websites, and local outreach.
Volunteer – Its not all about the money. Local is committed to helping local teams and non-profits get the help they need to succeed. A portion of all race proceeds will be donated to a registered 501(3)c non-profit or local cycling organization.

The Bosque Tour De Norway - Presented by Clifton Chamber of Commerce This year we are the first leg of the European Tour of Texas Challenge that includes The Bosque Tour de Norway, ... moreThe Tour de Italia, and The Tour de Paris. To participate in this challenge you will have to pre-register with the challenge and then check in with the challenge registration tables set up at each ride in the challenge. At the conclusion of the challenge all participants that have completed the challenge will receive a custom jersey as reward. Online registration for the challenge is open, but can be made as late as on site at the Tour de Norway.

The fifth Bosque Tour de Norway will be held on May 21, 2016. The start/finish line will be at Clifton High School. We will have 4 routes to choose from 20, 40, 60 and 80 miles. Each will allow you to enjoy the beauty of the top of Texas hill country and be riding through the historical Norse community.

The Norwegian settlement began here in 1854, the same year the county was founded, and was led by Ole Canuteson and included Cleng Peerson, “The Father of Norwegian Immigration to America.” Thousands of Norwegian immigrants, some coming directly from Norway and others from northern states, would eventually settle between Clifton and Cranfills Gap by century’s end. The Norwegian influence in the area is still very evident today, including Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, site of our first rest stop, and St. Olaf Kirke, or as it is better-known, The Old Rock Church.

START TIME:
Start time for all routes is 8 a.m. at the Clifton High School and Ave. Q.

REGISTRATION:
Registration opens at 6:30 a.m. at the Clifton High School Gym.

PARKING:
There is plenty of parking available at Clifton High School.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
You will be riding on a combination of state highways and county roads. All are paved but there are some rough areas on the county roads due to chip seal pavement and some potholes. Most roads are comfortable to ride on. Since this is the top of the hill country there are rolling hills with a few good leg burner climbs, followed by fast descents.

REST STOPS:
There will be rest stops approximately every 10 miles. All rest stops will have shade, seating, food, drinks and Port-a-Potties. There will be plenty of friendly locals to help you out if you have any questions about the area.

FINAL NOTES:

The locker rooms will be open again this year for your convenience so be sure to bring that change of clothes and a towel. Day of registrations will be an additional $5. So, Solo riders will be $30 instead of $25, Tandem riders will be $40 total instead of $35, and Kids will be $17 instead of $12. So make sure to get pre-registered today.
