NOTE: 51st street at I-35 was closed today. It's supposed to re-open at 7a tomorrow, but after talking to TxDot today, they said it may just be the sidewalk. If you drive to the ride, ... morehave an alternate plan, or leave a little early. I will post at 7a if we plan to cancel due to rain, but I won't be canceling for the cold. Bundle up!

Also, there is a street closure Loyola at 183. We will avoid that with an updated route, which is attached.

We'll wind our way from the Peddler through east Austin past Manor to Bitting School Rd. and back to the store stop in Manor and then back into town on the Walnut Creek Hike and Bike Trail. Lots of country miles on this route. The average speed will be 13-14 mph (on your gps), but on flat straight-a-ways there may be some sustained stretches of 15-23 mph. This is a no drop ride and we will regroup at turns and hilltops as necessary.

Parking is available north of 51st on Duval and on side streets around the Peddler. Please don't park in the alley behind the Peddler and The Flight Path Coffee House.

Riders should bring helmets, water, spare tube, and identification. Please leave headphones, speakers, and earbuds at home.

Helmets are required on all of my rides.

Please try to arrive 10 -15 minutes early for sign in and safety brief.

Post ride coffee and tacos at Flight Path.

I am leaving Austin and moving to Reno, Nevada for a great job opportunity, so I will be leading this ride for my last time. I have been injured for the last couple of weeks, but now ... moreI am all healed and ready to lead one last Bike Austin ride. If you know me, I hope you can join me.

This is the standard South Austin route to Buda and then returning. This ride is no-drop and the pace will average 14ish mph so be sure you can maintain that ride pace. No drop means that we regroup periodically and will stop as a group for minor mechanical problems such as flats or thrown chains; major problems will require AAA or the equivalent. There is a virtual route map at www.mapmyride.com

Regular bikes welcome, recumbents worshipped. The usual post ride fare and smack talk at Maria's Taco Xpress, an Austin institution.

Ride starts from Bicycle Sport Shop at 517 South Lamar Blvd. You can email me at mistertax@hotmail.com if you have any questions.

Ho ho ho! Spend Christmas Eve afternoon on your bike, as we ride through a variety of urban neighborhoods and spread some holiday cheer. Led by Santa (who resembles Rick Byrnes), we'll ... morebring along a Christmas carol sound system, and stop and visit with folks along the way, finding out who's been naughty or nice, and make some folks' holiday special. Santa may be warm and kind, emphasizing the need to be kind and do good deeds, or he may be a joke-cracking smart ass - who knows? Dress in the holiday spirit, decorate your bike?, and bring an assortment of inexpensive gifts to hand out to random people we meet along the route. Everyone loves Santa! This is a no-drop social ride - expect to ride 20 miles max in 2 hours.

Start at Tamale House East, 1707 E 6th Street (entrance on 5th Street), where we'll also gather for post-ride refreshment. Don't hog restaurant parking - street parking is available in surrounding blocks.

Ride may be cancelled if temp is below 45 deg F or there is high chance of rain - if questionable check this website 2 hours before ride or text 512-626-5212

Note earlier start time of 7:30 AM! Moderate paced ride with a couple of fast parts. No drop with regular regroup points. In recognition of our friend, Louis Mestier, and to wish ... morehim well as he begins his journey off to the wild, wild west, we will start this ride at 7:30 and then ride the 20 minutes over to Bicycle Sport Shop on South Lamar to connect with Louis and his group, then we'll ride with them out through South Austin to the Buda turnaround. Then off to Creedmoor to complete the usual course - this should add about 4 miles to the regular course. (Or, if you wish, back to Austin with Louis' group for one final fling at Maria's but then you'll have to make your way back to Mozart's with a tummy full of tacos).

Traditional course from Lake Austin through South Austin, Old San Antonio Road and eventually over to FM 1327 (or other back roads) to Creedmoor, then back to the city via Old Lockhart Road. 45 miles.

Start Location: Parking lot across Lake Austin Boulvard from Mozart's Coffee Roasters, 3825 Lake Austin Blvd, Austin, TX 78703. Up the hill, near the old boat. Please arrive 10 minutes early. Coffee and conversation after the ride at Mozart's.

This 20 mile loop around Central Austin will be stopping to visit some of the TEMPO 2017 artworks from the Art in Public Places program. It is perfect for visitors that are looking ... moreto stretch their legs a little bit before a longer ride on Sunday. The route starts with a few neighborhood hills along Exposition before we make our first stop at Ramsey Park. Our travels will go through North Loop, Mueller, and East Austin with stops at Bartholomew Park, the Carver Library, the Mexican American Cultural Center plus a photo op at Forever Bicycles. The distance makes this an intermediate ride. We depart from Mellow Johnny's Bike Shop so stop by 30 minutes early if you'd like to join us for a coffee.

Taking over for William on this ride. This is more or less his classic City Park ride where we go up Lakewood (or Beauford, if you like) and then over to City Park Road, Westminster ... moreGlen, Big View, 620, etc. On the way back, we turn on Centennial (to get off Anderson Mill Rd) and wind our way back to Jollyville with a few new twists and turns in between. There is an option at Floral Park to go right and do a few more hills or keep going on Jollyville straight to the Starbucks finish. This is a fairly hilly ride, so be prepared to climb some 15-20% grades.

Here's a new variation of the tried and true Blacks Fort route. Starting at the Elementary School in Bertram, we'll head north toward Joppa, make a swing by Blacks Fort and the continue ... moreon to Lampasas. Mid-point store stop in Lampasas to refuel before we head south for the return leg. Optional water stop in Lake Victor on the return (mile 44). Low traffic and bucolic vistas make this one of my favorite routes. Well worth the drive. Expect moderate rollers with 2500 ft of climbing and classic Texas chip seal. There is a 45 mile option with a water stop in Lake Victor, no store stop.

Helmets are mandatory. Plan to arrive by 7:45AM to sign-in, get ready, and participate in the safety briefing. The ride departs at 8:00AM sharp. Fuel and facilities stop at the midpoint. Minimum of 2 bottles or hydration pack required. This is a hosted ride for the 64 mile route.

Do you feel awkward when on a group ride and need to ask for help in fixing a flat? Don't fret .... we've all been there. Stop by and pick up a few hints on taking the wheel and tire ... moreoff, changing the tube and replacing them. You can either simply watch or bring your bike to practice. If you do the latter, you might want to bring a spare tube just in case of a mishap (pinched tube). If we have time, we can also touch on repairing a tube.

The ... moreArtRides TEMPO North Route has fewer stops and more mileage than the South Route, finishing with a visit to Shroeter Park off of Duval Rd in northwest Austin. Most of this ride is along fairly comfortable routes but our finish is on Jollyville Rd to the Arboretum.
