SATURDAYS: May - September at 7:30am Club rides are on the open roads of Brazoria County with minimal traffic and good roads. New Riders: On the first Saturday of each month, we will ... morehave special attention paid to new riders. The ride will be at a slower pace (up to 15 mph) but will give new riders the ability to get acquainted with the club and its rides. New riders are welcome at all times, but the first Saturday will have dedicated PCC members available for guidance. For more information contact Justin.

Saturday Ride: This is our regular Saturday ride. Multiple pace groups - usually 14-, 15-17, 18-20 and 21+. Routes vary from 30-55 miles. See the Maps section for the routes. Ride Start times are posted to the left. Meet beginning about 30 minutes prior to the ride start.

PCC has group rides every weekend in the Pearland and surrounding areas. Our ride start is conveniently located near FM 518 and Highway 288 only 20 minutes south of Downtown Houston.

We ride on rural roads with light traffic, few traffic lights, and just a handful of stop signs. We have access to some of the best cycling roads in the Metropolitan Houston area.

Several ride pace groups to satisfy everyone from our race enthusiasts to our general fitness folks who also enjoy social aspects of cycling.

The No-Drop Grou The Saturday Morning Rides are organized into pace groups. One of the pace groups is a No-Drop Ride. This ride is perfect for new riders and those who are looking ... morefor an easy, more social group. This group leaves after all other groups have started, and everyone in the group looks out for each other. You don't have to worry you'll get left behind - someone will stay with you, whether you have a flat, or just aren't as fast as your speed-demon friends!

Its ride leaders are Wayne Freeman, and Samuel Wu.

The No-Drop Ride is for both the new cyclist and the not-so-new-cyclist that's still new to NWCC. Riders should be able to meet the minimum rider requirements for the Saturday Zube Ride:

Be able to ride at least 20 miles
Be able to maintain a minimum of 12 mph
Obey all traffic laws
Helmets required
No headphones

Regardless of your ability, the No-Drop Riders will make sure that you're welcomed, looked after, and also entertained. You see, this group includes quite a few long-time club members who prefer the lively social atmosphere of the New Riders Group. If you're looking for peace and quiet, this might NOT be the group for you!

Our Saturday morning rides - still going strong!

No other city in the nation can boast a cycling club like NWCC. And no other city has anything approaching NWCC’s famous “Saturday Morning Rides”.

For over 25 years, 52 Saturdays a year, rain or shine, cyclists numbering from 75 to well over 200 converge on the parking lot at Zube Park in far northwest Harris County. Many are club members; and many are non-club members who are always welcomed guests.

Club members volunteer to be the Saturday “Ride Starter”. By megaphone the Ride Starter welcomes everyone, gives a few Club announcements, then calls out the pace groups. Pace groups include “New Riders”, 14-16 mph, 16-18 mph, 18-20 mph, and 20+ mph.

Pace groups will cover distances from 20 to over 80 miles, riding on well-paved, quiet country roads in Harris and Waller Counties. Hours later, as the riders return, the Ride Starter sets out coolers of Gatorade and water, bananas, cookies, and peanut butter sandwiches.

Saturday morning rides start from Zube Park. Occasionally the Park will have a scheduling conflict and we'll start from the nearby Hockley Community Center. (Be sure to check the calendar.) Start times are at either 7:30 am or 8:00 am, depending upon the time of year. See Start Times below.

Cyclists riding out of Zube should be able to meet the following requirements:
Be able to ride at least 20 miles
Be able to maintain a minimum of 12 mph
Obey all traffic laws
Helmets required
No headphones

Just getting started in cycling? New to Northwest Cycling Club? New to the Houston area and not sure of the routes? We have a group for you! Ride with ourNo-Drop Ride - everyone is welcome!

Directions to Zube Park :Take HWY 290 to Roberts Rd. exit. Turn North (right) on Roberts Rd. The park is about a 1/4 mile North of HWY. 290 on Robert's Road on the right. MAP

Directions to the Hockley Community Center: Take 290 (past the Richards exit) to the Kermier Road exit. Exit on Kermier, and turn left on Kermier (i.e., go under the 290 freeway) to Old 290. Go across old 290, and across the RR tracks to Old Washington. Turn right on Old Washington and continue on that road until you cross RR tracks again. > the Einsteins Bagels at the old start has closed 😢 NEWish START LOCATION! 12601 Tech Ridge Blvd, Austin, TX 78753 (i.e. La Tapatia/Little Woodrow’s)... more
There’s taco shop there in the same strip center as Little Woodrow’s on the southeast corner of Tech Ridge and Parmer. The taco shop is open in the mornings for those wanting to get some food/coffee/rest room before the ride. There is plenty of parking, especially back behind the building.

The Bagel Ride has been around since 1992 and is open to all riders that love riding their bicycles. The ride was formally known as Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure with Bill Ream's assistance. Bill passed away March 2014 but the ride continues in his honor.

There are two groups, both of which roll out together, and then split at the store stop. Short ride is usually 50-60 miles, long ride 70-85 miles. This can be a competitive ride, but tends to stay at a steady tempo, without lots of surges. One of the best group rides in town! Led by Matt, the Bagelmeister.

The MOTR ride is a great fit for the intermediate rider who has spent some time on the bike riding in groups and on urban roads, but is looking for a bit more challenge in distance ... moreand speed.

This no drop, co-ed ride averages 17-20mph. The ride typically starts in one large group of 50+ people, and naturally splits into intermediate and advanced groups. Routes vary from 38-50 miles on in-town bike routes and/or on roads with low to moderate traffic. Riders for this group should have experience riding in groups and understand the etiquette of group riding, be able to change a tire and address minor mechanical issues.

General group ride expectation: helmet, bike in good working condition, water and nutrition, flat changing tools, and no headphones or tri-bars. We encourage you to ride your bike to the shop. However, if you do drive, please park in the street. Juan Pelota Cafe opens at 7am and is located inside Mellow Johnny's.

For pre-ride coffee or snack, meet at Juan Pelota Café a half hour before ride time.
