A moderate C-pace ride (roughly 11 to 14 mph) on The Southern Walnut Creek Trail from Govalle Park to the Abrupt End and return. Round trip is about 20 miles. The trail is paved for ... morethe entire distance, with a 1/2 mile hill on the outbound. We'll regroup periodically on the outbound and at the Abrupt End. The return is mostly downhill. And you might even see Lance flashing by.
The trail is two-way and narrows down in spots, with a couple of blind corners. Single-file riding and moderate speed on the turns is recommended!

There are two significant road intersections that require caution to cross.

A map of Govalle Park's location is at http://austinparks.org/parks/govalle-park/

Bring water, a snack, a spare bicycle tire tube, and tools to fix a flat. Riders will sign a liability waiver at the ride start and must wear a helmet.

There are no restrooms on the trail itself. There are restrooms at Govalle Park and at the Austin Tennis Center, about 1/3 mile off the trail.

I'm "back in the saddle again"--well kind of---(using the old Gene Autry phrase---just how many of you are now thinking WHO the heck is Gene Autry????---yeah he's the Oklahoma singing ... morecowboy who owned the LA/Anaheim Angels (baseball))

A good south wind country ride for those who may like this option.

The course is over some familiar roads through rural northeast Travis county. Come and join us for this early morning ride. We'll do a moderate (14-16 mph) "B" pace and re-group at the next major turn or top of the climb. We'll start from the Lake Pflugerville north parking lot and head east, then south, climbing the Jones Hill, then back west, travelling on Taylor Rd., Bloor Rd., and Blue Bluff Rd.; coming home thru Manor with the (hopefully) prevailing tail wind. We'll have a store stop on FM 969 at 27 miles.

Note I: I don't have maps of this course, but Q-sheets will be provided and the RidewithGPS version of the course is attached for electronic downloading.

Note II: Helmets are required on all Bike Austin rides.

Note III: Left "click" on this ride's title to get/see the starting location map & address, as well as the ride route map in RidewithGPS.

We can try coffee or lunch after the ride, for those interested.

Starting Point: Lake Pflugerville north parking lot (w/rest room facilities) on Weiss Ln.

Please arrive, with you and your equipment ready to ride 45 miles, in time to sign-in prior to the starters meeting at 7:20 AM; for a prompt roll-out at 7:30 AM. The early starting time is keeping us in the "Beat-the Heat" mode in the warm fall months.

This is a hosted "B" pace ride (under the "old" category). If you are not familiar with our ride categories, please check these two sites to ensure you can match yourself to the ride:
