Yes, that's right - a fat burner ride: long and steady, no sprints. Those 8 pounds from Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Years are still there, so it's time for long miles. Not long HARD ... moremiles, just long miles, so this time we're doing 55 miles on one of our usual routes. Longer rides later. No drop; we'll regroup if necessary anywhere the group can get split, and refuel at the Kyle Valero station. C pace home again. Coffee and conversation afterwards at Mozart's.

Please be sure to arrive a little early for signup and rider's meeting.

BE SURE TO CHECK THIS SITE AFTER 7:00 ON RIDE DAY IN CASE OF RAIN OR DANGEROUSLY HIGH WIND.

START LOCATION: meet (and park) at the back of the "uphill" parking lot across Lake Austin Blvd. from the coffee shop. Look for the old boat on your left up the hill; we're near there.

Ride start 9 AM NOTE: The Govalle parking lot might be closed for swimming pool construction. If so, we can park in the baseball field parking lot that is just a hundred yards east ... more(three houses away) of park parking lot entrance on Bolm Road, and ride a short ped/bike bridge over Boggy Creek that connects to the SWCT.

A moderate C-pace ride (roughly 11 to 14 mph) on The Southern Walnut Creek Trail from the trailhead at Govalle Park to the Abrupt End and return. Round trip is about 20 miles. The trail is paved for the entire distance, with a 1/2 mile hill on the outbound. We'll regroup at the top of the hill on the outbound and at the Abrupt End. The return is mostly downhill. The trail is two-way and narrows down in spots, with a couple of blind corners. Single-file riding and moderate speed on the corners is strongly recommended!

There are two significant road intersections that require caution to cross.
A map of Govalle Park's location is at http://austinparks.org/parks/govalle-park/

Bring water, a snack, a spare bicycle tire tube, and tools to fix a flat. Riders will sign a liability waiver at the ride start and must wear a helmet. There are no restrooms on the trail itself. There are restrooms at the Austin Tennis Center, about 1/3 mile off the trail at the top of the hill.

• What to bring
helmet, water/sports drink, tools to fix a flat, spare inner tube, snack(optional)
Optional coffee afterword at Sa-Ten, 916 Springdale Rd in the Canopy arts complex.

This ride is cross-posted to the Austin Cycling group on Meetup.com.

Thanks to today's hectic and busy society, getting citizens — of all ages — involved in charting the course for their city requires more creative approaches than the typical town hall ... moremeeting.

Mayor Betsy founded Walking, Rolling and Caffeinated Town Halls to break the mold of that traditional, worn-out and sometimes boring town hall meeting with a casual — and active — way for citizens to connect with this city's elected leaders.

Come on out to our next town hall gathering to meet your representatives and have your voice heard! You might even have some fun with city leaders while you're at it!

It's Your Fort Worth, and we want to hear from you!

Rolling Town Halls
Grab your bike and bring your ideas for Fort Worth. Join Mayor Betsy (and certain Council members) and Bike FW at the Rolling Town Halls. Enjoy a casual ride through a planned route to see different parts of your city and to share how we can keep improving! What to expect:

Casual (easy) bike ride, geared to be family friendly ... no competitive racing
Length of rides between 5 and 7 miles or about 45 minutes
Typically, the rides will start and end in parks, community center parking lots, businesses or neighborhood amenity centers
