Join us for a ride that goes west and northwest from the Peddler past RR 620 to Lime Creek Road and back (unless you are going on to Alaska). There is some urban riding, but most of ... morethe ride is in bike lanes or on quiet shady neighborhood streets. This ride is not as hilly as it gets in Austin, but there are several short steep hills that may challenge riders unused to hills.

Average speed will be 13-15 mph, but the group will go faster on flat straightaways. This is a no-drop ride and we will regroup on hills and turns as necessary.

Parking is available north of 51st on Duval and on the side streets around Duval. Please don't park in the alley behind the Peddler and Flight Path Coffeehouse.

Please arrive at least 10 minutes early for sign-in and route briefing. We will leave promptly at 8:30

Coffee and conversation afterwards at the Flight Path or Home Slice.

Helmets are required on Peddler Bike Austin rides and riders should bring water, emergency identification, and a spare tube. Please leave headphones, speakers, and earbuds at home.

CHANGED TO WEDNESDAY, start time 7:45 am
This is the traditional Thursday hill ride, but moved to Wednesday to avoid Thanksgiving. I'm subbing for usual leader, Sirish. He is out of town and not able to cancel his posting. ... moreThis ride replaces his. The ride will start at the Great Hills Starbucks (9722 Great Hills Trail) at 7:45 am.

We'll ride 24-30 miles in the neighborhoods of Great Hills and Spicewood, with a total ascent of 2,300-3,000 feet. The distance and elevation gain will depend on who shows up and how ambitious we all feel. There are some substantial grades of up to 20%, so come prepared to climb. Coffee at Starbucks afterwards for those interested.

Be sure to check this post on ride day to confirm status.

Helmets are required on all Bike Austin rides.

RIDE IS ON FOR 9 AM START
Ride start 9 AM NOTE: The Govalle parking lot might be closed for swimming pool construction. If so, we can park in the baseball field parking lot that is just a hundred yards east ... more(three houses away) of park parking lot entrance on Bolm Road, and ride a short ped/bike bridge over Boggy Creek that connects to the SWCT.

A moderate C-pace ride (roughly 11 to 14 mph) on The Southern Walnut Creek Trail from the trailhead at Govalle Park to the Abrupt End and return. Round trip is about 20 miles. The trail is paved for the entire distance, with a 1/2 mile hill on the outbound. We'll regroup at the top of the hill on the outbound and at the Abrupt End. The return is mostly downhill. The trail is two-way and narrows down in spots, with a couple of blind corners. Single-file riding and moderate speed on the corners is strongly recommended!

There are two significant road intersections that require caution to cross.
A map of Govalle Park's location is at http://austinparks.org/parks/govalle-park/

Bring water, a snack, a spare bicycle tire tube, and tools to fix a flat. Riders will sign a liability waiver at the ride start and must wear a helmet. There are no restrooms on the trail itself. There are restrooms at the Austin Tennis Center, about 1/3 mile off the trail at the top of the hill.

• What to bring
helmet, water/sports drink, tools to fix a flat, spare inner tube, snack(optional)
Optional coffee afterword at Sa-Ten, 916 Springdale Rd in the Canopy arts complex.
