CANCELLED
CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER: It is only raining slightly, however we are under a tornado watch, flash flood watch, and the airport has issued a lightning advisory... more

Starting from Performance Bicycles North, 2900 W Anderson Ln, Austin

Cycling Cezannes and pedaling Picassos - join us on a quirky, social, neighborhood bike ride which takes us past some of Austin's most notable (or notorious) outdoor art... Treasure or trash? Iconic or eyesore? You decide.

The ride will cover about 20 miles at an expected moving pace of 12 mph. Riders must wear a helmet and obey all traffic laws. Your bike should be in good working condition and you should carry ID, money, cell phone, water, tools, and lock.

Our destination will be Art City Austin, the city's grandest community art fair and festival. Admission is $10. We'll tour the exhibits for about an hour, then regroup and ride back to the start. (Those who don't want to visit Art City can head back on their own, or hang out at Lady Bird Lake for an hour and join us for the ride home.)

We typically gather for lunch after the ride.

We'll wind our way from the Peddler through east Austin past Manor to Bitting School Rd. and back to the store stop in Manor and then back into town on the Walnut Creek Hike and Bike ... moreTrail. Lot's of country miles on this route, I expect the wildflowers to be out in full force. This is a no drop ride so we'll stop and regroup as needed

Please don't park in front of or behind the Peddler. There is plenty of street parking in the surrounding neighborhood
and north of 51st on Duval.

Be sure to bring a spare tube and plenty of water. Lights front and rear are highly recommended.

Helmets are required on all of my rides.

Please try to arrive 10 -15 minutes early for sign in and safety brief.

Join us for a 2-day,self-contained biking / camping trip from Leander along quiet country roads to Dana Peak Park on Stillhouse Hollow Lake. Self-contained bike touring uses a rack ... moreand panniers (or trailer) to haul everything you need for the journey on your bike. Occasionally we recruit a volunteer SAG driver (not organized by the club), so that carrying your own luggage is not required. As of press time, there is no SAG.

Expect to ride about 50 miles each day on some hilly terrain, with a group pace averaging 12 mph. Route sheets will be provided for those who wish to ride faster or slower. We'll stop for Saturday lunch in a cafe in Florence, and set up camp in the afternoon, taking a stroll along the lake before fixing dinner. After a hearty breakfast we'll head back on Sunday, stopping along the way for lunch.

Chip in $5 per person to cover camping (primitive site). Additional funds are needed to buy your own food along the route, and should we have a SAG driver you would need to chip in for his expenses. RSVP needed - leader will need to interview each participant to make sure the trip is right for them.

Riders must wear a helmet, obey all traffic laws, and carry equipment to change a flat tire. Recommended to wear bright color clothing / flashing tail lite and carry cell phone. For camping, bring tent, sleeping bag & pad, raingear, flashlight, change of clothes, towel, toothbrush etc, and eating utensils.

Exact start location will be provided. If likelihood of bad weather is predicted, the trip will be cancelled. Event is co-sponsored with Austin Sierra Club. Assistant leader: Diane N.

A 57 mile Liberty Hill ride. We start/end from Tejas Park/Camp, on the North Fork San Gabriel River---north & east of the Ronald Reagan-TX 29 intersection on CR 258 (see start ... morelocation map attached), and ride southwest thru Liberty Hill, before turning north to Bertram. We'll then head northeast going thru Mahomet before turning southeast to ride thru Andice on our way back to the Tejas Park/Camp. We'll be pedaling on some familiar roads, but also on some new roads for many of us---we will have mostly quiet, good surface, Central Texas roads. We climb just under 2520 ft. on this route--per RIDEwithGPS--most of the climbing in the first 30 miles of the ride. We'll have a store stop in Bertram at 25 miles. On the HOT days (probably NOT after a January ride though!)---plan to cool-off by sitting in the San Gabriel River at rides end!

NOTE I: Helmets are required on all Bike Austin rides.

NOTE II: I do not have maps; but Q-sheets will be provided. The RIDEwithGPS version is attached below for electronic downloading.

Starting Point: Tejas Park/Camp---see map/address attached below. Public rest room facilities are at the start site.

Please arrive, with you and your equipment ready to ride 57 miles, in time to sign-in prior to the starters meeting at 8:20 AM; for a prompt roll-out at 8:30 AM.

This ride goes west and northwest from the Peddler through neighborhoods to Anderson Mill Road and back (unless you are going on to Alaska). There are several short steep hills and ... morea couple of busy road crossings. Jollyville Road and Anderson Mill Road Road have bike lanes and are popular with bikers, but they can be busy. The ride through the neighborhoods is beautiful and quiet. Coffee/breakfast at Flightpath afterward. Contact Jeff Hufford at 512-657-9381 (can receive texts) with any questions. Note that the actual ride may somewhat vary from the linked map; we occasionally alter routes to best adapt to road conditions, weather and ride participant needs. Ride will be cancelled in case of wet roads, rain or imminent rain. Check ride listing one hour before departure time for weather cancellation.
