I'M BACK------NOTE---there are NO known low water crossings on this route!!!!! Still sore some (back, neck, backside---the hip is fine-(it is brand new!)), but riding to get better! ... more

This is a new/old mostly flat route starting from Lake Pflugerville. We can expect to split up into at least two (2) groups as I will be going at a slow pace (12-13 mph) as I ride myself back into better riding condition.

We'll be on some familiar roads as we pedal northeast into Williamson County and then turn south and west as we ride home thru Manda and by the New Sweeden Church, back to Lake Pflugerville. We have a store stop in Coupland at 20 miles.

Please arrive, and be ready to ride 44-45 miles, in time for a 6:50 AM riders meeting so we can roll from Lake Pflugerville promptly at 7:00 AM. We are in "beat-the-heat" mode!

NOTE I: Helmets are required on all Bike Austin rides.

NOTE II: Q-sheets will be provided for this new route. This route is attached below, from RIDEwithGPS, for electronic downloading.

If you are not familiar with our ride catagories; please see the following 2 sights to insure you are matched for this ride:

A moderate C-pace ride (roughly 11 to 14 mph) on The Southern Walnut Creek Trail from Govalle Park to the Abrupt End and return. Round trip is about 20 miles. The trail is paved for ... morethe entire distance, with a 1/2 mile hill on the outbound. We'll regroup periodically on the outbound and at the Abrupt End. The return is mostly downhill. And you might even see Lance flashing by.
The trail is two-way and narrows down in spots, with a couple of blind corners. Single-file riding and moderate speed on the turns is recommended!

There are two significant road intersections that require caution to cross.

A map of Govalle Park's location is at http://austinparks.org/parks/govalle-park/

Bring water, a snack, a spare bicycle tire tube, and tools to fix a flat. Riders will sign a liability waiver at the ride start and must wear a helmet.

There are no restrooms on the trail itself. There are restrooms at Govalle Park and at the Austin Tennis Center, about 1/3 mile off the trail.

Join us for a ride out into the countryside around Manor and Cele (prounounced “seal”). We travel mostly on rural roads, with some easy urban riding getting into and out ... moreof town. Terrain is rolling farmland, with one or two short steep hills. The average speed will be 14-16 mph, but on flat straight-a-ways there may be some sustained stretches of 16-20 mph. This is a no drop ride and we will regroup at turns and hilltops as necessary. Distance may vary by a mile or two depending on how much we decide to use the Walnut Creek Bike Trail.

Riders should bring helmets, water, spare tube, and identification. Please leave headphones and earbuds at home.

Parking is available north of 51st on Duval and on side streets around the Peddler. Please don't park in the alley behind the Peddler and The Flight Path Coffee House.

We will leave promptly at 7:00am. Please arrive at least 10 minutes early for sign in and ride orientation.

Coffee and conversation at the Flight Path after the ride.

This ride goes west and northwest from the Peddler through neighborhoods to Anderson Mill Road , up to Lime Creek Road and back (unless you are going on to Alaska). There are several ... moreshort steep hills and a couple of busy road crossings. Jollyville Road and Anderson Mill Road Road have bike lanes and are popular with bikers, but they can be busy. The ride through the neighborhoods is beautiful and quiet. Contact Amy Hufford at 512-750-3012 (can receive texts) or amhufford@gmail.com with any questions. Note that the actual ride may somewhat vary from the linked map; we occasionally alter routes to best adapt to road conditions, weather and ride participant needs. Ride will be cancelled if it is raining, about to rain or if roads are wet. Listing will be updated by 1 hour in advance with status, so please refresh your browsers and check then if unsure.
