Join us for a ride down the east side of town to McKinney Falls and a return on the west side. This variation uses the Montopolis Bridge and Dove Springs Road. It is slightly less ... morehilly. Otherwise it is much like the usual version of our McKinney Falls ride. Most of the route is on bike lanes and/or quiet streets, but there is some urban riding. There are several stretches of rolling hills and/or short moderately steep hills. There are no hills very hard in themselves, but the cumulative effect can be grueling for inexperienced riders or riders who haven't ridden for a while. The average speed will be 13-14 mph, but we will ride faster on straightaways and some riders may break away on the front. This is a no drop ride and we will regroup at turns and hilltops as necessary.

Riders should bring helmets, spare tube, water, and emergency identification. Please leave headphones, loudspeakers, and earbuds at home.

Parking is available on Duval Street north of 51st and on the side streets off Duval. Please don't park in the alley behind the Peddler and Flight Path.

We will leave promptly at 7:30 am. Please arrive at least 10 minutes early for sign in and ride instructions.

Coffee and conversation after the ride at the Flight Path or at Home Slice Pizza.

DESCRIPTION: This is a classic Hill Country ride, mainly on pretty, un-trafficked roads. No killer hills although there is a fair amount of cumulative climbing. There are two short stretches on FM 2325 (single file) to include a store stop in Wimberley. May be higher traffic in Wimberley if on first Saturday (Market Day).

AVERAGE SPEED: 15-17 mph. A guide only; actual pace depends on the group and to maintain this average, there will be some significantly faster stretches.

TERRAIN: Hilly

RIDE START ADDRESS AND url: Lake Lucy Loop (off Roger Hanks Pkwy.) one mile east of RR12 in Dripping Springs. https://goo.gl/maps/jbfVdy1J4y92

MAP/CUE/RideWithGPS: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/13543507

OTHER:

Helmets are mandatory on all my rides.

Ride will be “no drop” but only assuming riders have properly matched themselves to the ride description, average speed and terrain.

Please arrive early enough to prepare yourself + bike, have the 5-minute safety briefing to be ready for an on-time departure.

In case of inclement weather, check this web site and/or my emails early on the morning of the ride.

POST RIDE: Following the ride optional lunch at Rolling In Thyme & Dough in Dripping Springs. We plan to join William Hudson and the riders from the Double Popsicle ride. Stop by for a sandwich, soup, salad or special of the day but be prepared to wait – our food is fresh food, not fast food!"

We also have a Google Group (Austin and Central Texas Cycling) in which we discuss upcoming rides and miscellaneous cycling stuff. Email me (address above) if interested in joining – you can always unsubscribe yourself if you later decide you have no interest.

NOTE the early starting time----we have entered the "beat-the-heat" mode now!!! This also gets us off of FM 1869 as early as possible---hopefully before most of the heavy traffic!! ... moreA new/old country ride from Liberty Hill.

The 65 mile route will be be at a "Social B" paced group, but may also have a faster " A or A-" group going (hammering?) off the front. This is a variation of the popular Milmor's Man ride from Liberty Hill. These routes are modified from an earlier riding route, while maintaining a very scenic ride, to: a) minimize the riding time on FM 1869 & b) do the CR 284 "rollers" early in the ride instead of at the end of the ride.

After riding west on FM 1869 for 1.5 miles, we'll be on some scenic quiet country roads going west through Oatmeal on our way to Burnet or Bertram.
We return east back through Oatmeal making an elongated figure 8. We'll stay north of FM 1869 on the way home doing a slightly flatter ride than the numerous "rollers" south on CR 284 (we ride those rollers on the way out to Oatmeal). The store stop is in Burnet at 37 miles. Total climbing is 2550 ft. according to RIDEwithGPS.

NOTE I: Helmets are required on ALL bike Austin rides.

NOTE II: I don't have maps, but Q-Sheets (for both rides) will be provided and the RIDEwithGPS versions are attached for electronic downloading.

NOTE III: Please arrive with you & your bike ready to ride 65 miles (we only have one (1) store stop at 37 miles) in time for a 6:55 AM ride start meeting so we can be rolling PROMPTLY at 7:00 AM. Bring plenty of drink & food for the ride distance.

NOTE IV: Start Location is the Liberty Hill Elemenmtary School on Loop 332. (No restroom facilities at ride start).

Lunch after the ride, for those interested (all are invited), at the Liberty Hill Corner Market/Deli.

Be sure and check this posting early ride morning for any possible weather cancellation.

This is a county road centric ride to Wemberly leaving from Roger Hanks Parkway on west side of Dripping Springs. There will be a store stop in Wemberly at the half-way point. This ... moreis a no-drop ride but all are expected to bring spare tube and everything necessary to change a flat. Help will be provided!

Mostly B pace ride but typically split into two or more groups regouping at all turns. Few stop signs, little traffic and lots of goats and llamas. Some will be meeting at Pieous Pizza heading back to ATX afterwards.

This is a hilly route but nothing super steep. Outbound takes Mt Gainor\Mt Scott Roads but return is Pump Station Road with lower incline. Hills make you stronger!
