As my first race in 10 years and the first race of the season I was a bit nervous. Even before the race, first was the silly question of how many layers to wear. I had no idea how intense the pace is going to be and didn't want to be too cold or too hot. Some temperature research on wunderground.com compared to my latest rides had me going out with a speed-suit, base layer, arm warmers and legs warmers, ... more gloves, and shoe covers. It was about 47F-50F.We were a group of ~30. The race started easy. At about mile 10 it stared drizzling a bit and one rider went up the front. I'm assuming to warm up. I followed. Looked back and we had about 100-150 feet on the pack. One more rider joined and we had a nice break away for about 10 more miles in the wind and rain. I figured it was too early to go, so didn't hammer it that hard. We still managed to keep 400-500 feet on the chase group which shrank to about 10-12 riders. The advertised gravel section, once we turned on Harmon road - there's was no sign of it. They fixed the road. I took very few pulls on Harmon and pulled on the big hill on 580. Once we turned on 1113, Andrew Martin of Bat City pulled most of the way. Many thanks! We got over the last 2 climbs, about 10-12 of us. The pace intensified a bit, once I saw the 200 meters line I went for it. Managed to get the W. Pedro Rodriguez from Bat City was second.
