Description
Our passion is serving the cycling community.

Our mission is introducing people to the joy of the bike.

Mellow Johnny's opened in 2008 in the heart of downtown Austin, in an historic warehouse building at 400 Nueces Street.

Beyond the retail box, the aim of Mellow Johnny's is to be a destination for cycling and social gathering. The urban setting of the Austin location is based on our commitment to cycling as transportation and utility, as well as fun and fitness.

To serve the bike community is our job, but to introduce people to the joy of the bike our mission.

Come join our merry band of bikers on our new Sunday Mellow Ride! We may be covering the 62 miles of southwest Austin, better known as the Saturday 100K loop.... more
Or we'll do something else. Depends mostly on wind direction and group whim.

Here is a map:
http://www.mapmyride.com/us/austin-tx/mj-100km-route-306329931

Our average pace will be 18-20mph.
This is NOT a recovery ride! It is harder and 20mi longer than the Saturday MOTR ride. It is the same distance and includes an additional water stop, when compared to the Saturday 100K. It is a challenge meant to prepare riders for the Saturday 100K.

If you would like a pleasant recovery spin, check out the Sunday Violet Crown ride that leaves from Mellow Johnny's at 8:15am

Lets abuse our bodies in the spirit of "exercise" and "enjoyment" by riding up a hill and down that same hill at least 5 consecutive times.... more

At the end of the ride you'll earn the right to say "it's about 1.5 hours later than when I started this ride" and "I feel not as energetic as I did back then" followed by "oh well". Truly a prize to cherish.

The MJ 100k is a little longer and faster than the Middle of the Road Ride (MOTR). For those who remember the Sweetish Hill Bakery rides, this has the vibe of those. 2x2 lines, social ... moreat times, but down to business others. That means you can prove it at the City Limit road signs—like the olden days.

It's a friendly and supportive group, but If you get dropped, be self sufficient as it not a no-drop ride.

What to bring? Road bike in good working condition, clipless pedals, helmet, water and nutrition, flat changing tools, and no headphones. Stop at 35 mile mark to top off bottles and grab a quick snack at mini-mart.

9am jan - feb. 8am otherwise.

The MOTR ride is a great fit for the intermediate rider who has spent some time on the bike riding in groups and on urban roads, but is looking for a bit more challenge in distance ... moreand speed.

This no drop, co-ed ride averages 17-20mph. The ride typically starts in one large group of 50+ people, and naturally splits into intermediate and advanced groups. Routes vary from 38-50 miles on in-town bike routes and/or on roads with low to moderate traffic. Riders for this group should have experience riding in groups and understand the etiquette of group riding, be able to change a tire and address minor mechanical issues.

General group ride expectation: helmet, bike in good working condition, water and nutrition, flat changing tools, and no headphones or tri-bars. We encourage you to ride your bike to the shop. However, if you do drive, please park in the street. Juan Pelota Cafe opens at 7am and is located inside Mellow Johnny's.

For pre-ride coffee or snack, meet at Juan Pelota Café a half hour before ride time.

Luke's Locker Downtown Austin will no longer be hosting their Taco Run, but MJ's would like be the new home base for the Tuesday morning route. Groups will head out and self-pace as ... moreusual. We look forward to encouraging some run leaders and welcoming our running guests to Mellow Johnny's. Sorry no free tacos, but the Juan Pelota cafe will be open at 7:00am once the runners return for coffee, power smoothies, pastries and breakfast tacos.
