Rosedale Recovery Ride (RRR)

Type
Road, Social, No Drop
Level
Novice
Rides suitable for cyclists who are new to the sport (or who have not been on a bike for some years), family-friendly rides or any riders that feel a need for some mentoring. Note: please note that minors under the age of 16 cannot participate in rides unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. Families with children should, in any event, confirm with the ride leader ahead of time that the ride will be suitable for their needs.

Intermediate
Targeted towards riders who have a few years in the saddle, who have developed some riding confidence and fitness and feel ready to move to the next level. Could attract more experienced riders who are looking for a relaxed or less aggressive ride.

Advanced
Limited to experienced riders with superior bike handling skills and who are comfortable with a fast pace (probably including single and/or double pace-line riding) and/or hilly terrain, and the possibility of heavily trafficked roads. Advanced rides are less likely to be "no-drop" unless identified as such.

Description
RIDE NAME AND DISTANCE:  Rosedale Recovery Ride (RRR).  12-20 miles.

DATE/TIME:  Thursday 14th February.   9:15 a.m.

RIDE LEADER/CONTACT:  William Hudson;  210-387-7340;  WilliamPedalsOn@gmail.com

DESCRIPTION:  These are pretty informal, no-drop, social rides. They start and finish in Rosedale.

AVERAGE SPEED:   12 - 14 mph.   A guide only; actual pace depends on the group and to maintain this average, there will be some faster stretches.

TERRAIN: Usually flatish. Some minor “walnuts”.  A couple of routes do have short, sharp climbs but we will regroup at the tops. Walking up the steepest stretches is not a crime.

RIDER LEVEL:  Intermediate, self-confident riders who are comfortable and safe in a group riding situation which could include exposure to some urban traffic.   More advanced riders also very welcome but this will not be a cardio training ride.

RIDE START ADDRESS & url:  2511 Great Oaks Parkway, 78756 (near 46th @ Shoal Creek Blvd.)   https://goo.gl/maps/MkRhRoVGEZt

MAP/CUE/RideWithGPS:  Routes vary. Cue sheets available at the ride start for newcomers/beginners.

LUNCH/COFFEE?  Almost always. Could be during or at the end of the ride.

OTHER:

·       Helmets are mandatory on all my rides.  No headphones/ear-buds please.

·       Ride will be “no drop” but only assuming riders have properly matched themselves to the ride description, average speed and terrain.

·       Please arrive early enough to prepare yourself + bike, have the 5-minute safety briefing to be ready for an on-time departure.

·       In case of inclement weather, check this web site and/or my emails early on the morning of the ride.

·       I also have a Google Group (Austin and Central Texas Cycling) in which we discuss upcoming rides and miscellaneous cycling stuff.  Email me (address above) if interested in joining.  You can always unsubscribe yourself if you later decide you have no interest.
