Sunday Violet Crown Ride

Type
Road
Level
Novice
Rides suitable for cyclists who are new to the sport (or who have not been on a bike for some years), family-friendly rides or any riders that feel a need for some mentoring. Note: please note that minors under the age of 16 cannot participate in rides unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. Families with children should, in any event, confirm with the ride leader ahead of time that the ride will be suitable for their needs.

Intermediate
Targeted towards riders who have a few years in the saddle, who have developed some riding confidence and fitness and feel ready to move to the next level. Could attract more experienced riders who are looking for a relaxed or less aggressive ride.

Advanced
Limited to experienced riders with superior bike handling skills and who are comfortable with a fast pace (probably including single and/or double pace-line riding) and/or hilly terrain, and the possibility of heavily trafficked roads. Advanced rides are less likely to be "no-drop" unless identified as such.

Description
Sundays, 8:15am sharp.
50-60 miles. 17-18 mph, with a couple of stops.
It is not a "no drop" ride so make sure you have tools, supplies, and a phone in case you get dropped or stranded. We will do our best to make sure that doesn't happen.
The Sunday Violet Crown Ride is for intermediate/advanced riders and racers, and is considered "recovery."
This is one of the oldest group rides in Austin, meeting every Sunday morning for over 30 years!

Riders should understand the etiquette of group riding, be able to change a tire and address minor mechanical issues. Wheels down at 8:15am.

What you need to bring: road bike, clipless pedals, helmet, bike in good working condition, the experience and tools to change your own flats, water and nutrition.

No headphones/radios.

Don't ride in your aero bars.

We encourage you to ride your bike down to the shop. If you do drive, please park in the street.

Organization
Chartered in 1981 by a small group of local cyclists, the Violet Crown Sports Association (VCSA) is the oldest continuously active racing and riding club in town. We have over 100 ... moreactive, dues-paying members, and while many of us still race regularly, many of the members have retired from racing and now ride recreationally. We count among our ranks many present and former state champions, and some of our former junior members have gone on to race on national development teams and moved into the pro ranks, including Kristian House, the 2009 British National Road Race Champion. But the main thing we all have in common is that we all love to ride, talk about, work on, and admire bikes. Come join us.

Our passion is serving the cycling community. Our mission is introducing people to the joy of the bike. Mellow Johnny's opened in 2008 in the heart of downtown Austin, in an historic ... morewarehouse building at 400 Nueces Street.

Beyond the retail box, the aim of Mellow Johnny's is to be a destination for cycling and social gathering. The urban setting of the Austin location is based on our commitment to cycling as transportation and utility, as well as fun and fitness.

To serve the bike community is our job, but to introduce people to the joy of the bike our mission.
