Description
Women's Mountain Biking Association of Colorado Springs.

Have you ever encountered a large and enthusiastic group of women mountain biking on the trails in and around Colorado Springs? If so, chances are you have come across the Women's Mountain Biking Association of Colorado Springs (WMBA of COS), a 501(c)(3) non-profit group committed to educating and encouraging women of all levels and skill in mountain biking.

WMBAcos was formed in 2008 by four women who recognized the need to connect women in the local cycling community. In addition to weekly group rides, WMBAcos also offers a variety of health, bike maintenance, and skills clinics for women to improve their mountain biking knowledge.  WMBAcos membership doubled during the first two years and we are excited to make 2016 our best season yet.

Our non-profit promotes mountain bike racing through our developmental racing teams. We currently support 20 women on the WMBAcos Racing Team. All of these women will help the organization to lead weekly group rides and plan events, fundraisers, and clinics.

WMBAcos strives to create an atmosphere that is not intimidating for any level of rider. No one is too slow or too fast to join in on a ride.  WMBAcos ride leaders generally break the group into three smaller units based upon ability. We have a no drop policy, which means that the groups stay together during the ride. These rides not only incorporate bike fitness, but also technical skills. It is common for the group to stop to practice technical terrain so riders can improve skills like "hopping up" or riding down a root or rock.

If you are thinking of about getting out on your mountain bike this summer - come join WMBAcos for a group ride. Check out our blog and previous newsletters for more details. Look to the right to sign-up for our free newsletter and if you are interested in becoming a member - check out our membership page.

Thanks and happy trails!

Group Rides
On Thursday, July 21st we will be doing a different type of Group Ride. The New Belgium Brewing Clips Beer and Film Tour will be taking place at America the Beautiful Park that night ... morewhich is a really fun event if you haven’t been before.
The event begins at 7:30 pm, there will be an assortment of New Belgium beers for sale and local eateries McCabe’s Tavern, Front Range Barbeque and Jake and Telly’s Greek Tavern will be on hand to serve up dinner. Aside from being really fun and having some great beer and food, is that the money from beer sales benefit local non-profits UpaDowna and Medicine Wheel Trail Advocates. At dark, the film portion begins with a selection of short films on interesting topics. This event is in its seventh year. Be sure to read up on it if you plan on attending so you have all of the details.
In past years, we have found that many of our volunteers would like to volunteer for this event also, leaving us short-handed. As well, many of our members have chosen to go the event. So this year, we have decided to join up with the event! We will meet at Monument Valley Park, north end where Fontanero dead-ends, and ride down to the event at 6:30, depart at 6:45. After we arrive you are on your own to stay at the event or return to where you parked at your convenience. If you are riding your bike at night, make sure you bring your lights with you! The return ride will not be hosted or guided by WMBA.
We will not be doing any kind of skill sessioning along the way and we will not be broken out into groups. We will just be leisurely (or quickly, whichever you prefer!) making our way down to America the Beautiful Park to join in the fun! If you feel like joining from another location, feel free to do so. Hope to see you there!
