Hell of the Southwest Gravel Pursuit - Presented by Performance Consilium Group LLC The Hell of the Southwest Gravel Pursuit Adventure Event is the annual signature gravel adventure ... moreride and race for Bear Mountain Bike and Outdoor Stores held each Spring, on the last Saturday in April, at the historic Talbert Ranch in China Spring, Texas. This year the Gravel Pursuit will take place on Saturday, April 30, 2016, near Waco, Texas, with courses located in McLennan and Bosque Counties.

The Bear Mountain Bike Shop and Outdoor Stores and our sponsors will be donating funds to a deserving local charity and two community organizations such as the Waco/McLennan County Chapter of the Testicular Cancer Foundation, the Waco Bicycle Club Bike & Pedestrian Advocacy Program, and Waco Striders Running Club Scholarship Program. We are looking forward to welcome you to this fun event. We believe our venue will be a great way for you to enjoy some of the best gravel roads and scenery in Central Texas. The Hell of the Southwest offers routes along beautiful gravel roads, some shaded by trees, some on sunlit country roads that meander through ranches, by rivers, creeks, and streams. We offer three courses featuring 80-85% gravel roads and 15-20% paved roads. The roads vary in surface condition from good gravel, to small cinder like sand, to dirt, to bigger rock, to some rutted wash out, to chip seal and smooth asphalt pavement. It was the late 1970's when a small group of cyclists in Austin, Texas decided to take on a unique challenge and satisfy a desire for their two favorite things... riding bikes and ... moredrinking great tasting beer. It was at that moment in time when the Great Austin to Shiner Pedal was born.

Throughout the years GASP has evolved into one of the biggest, best bike rides in the state of Texas and beyond while at the same time ensuring the small town feel of its roots are not lost. Get ready to hop and your bike, ride a pretty long way and have a great time.

After cyclists cross the finish line at the Spoetzl Brewery, an afternoon of music and food and, of course, ice cold Shiner Beer awaits! We'll have shower trucks set up so you can rinse off and change clothes. Enjoy a little more Shiner hospitality by taking a free tour of the historic Spoetzl Brewery. Free tours of the Spoetzl Brewery will be conducted from 1:30pm to 4:30pm.

We'll see you in Shiner!

Ride Against Hunger Parker County - Presented by Lakeshore Drive Baptist Church & North Side Baptist Church 100% of the proceeds from Ride Against Hunger go to providing weekend ... moremeals for Parker Country school children who are on free and reduced lunch - children who would otherwise be forced to skip meals when they're away from school. Packs of Love programs provide kids with enough packaged food to get them through the weekend when they leave school on Friday. Ride Against Hunger helps fund the programs. The result? Kids arrive at school on Monday happy and ready to learn.

Ride Against Hunger begins with a pro-style, police escort around the Parker County courthouse circle and out of downtown Weatherford. Once on the edge of town you'll be treated to some of, if not THE, best road biking in the state. That's because Parker County is known for long country roads that wind past farms, lakes and ranches. You'll find challenging climbs and exciting descents as well as beautiful hilltop vistas that will make you want to stop, get off your bike and snap a photo or two. Best of all, you won't have big city or hill country traffic to contend with and each route includes fully stocked reststops with bathroom facilities and plenty of food, water and sports drinks.

WHAT YOU GET:

Post-ride BBQ brisket dinner for all participants

Police escort around courthouse square and out of town

SAG support

Plenty of rest stops

Pedal Against PTSD Grinder 100 - Presented By Pedal Against PTSD PEDAL AGAINST PTSD AND THE DALLAS VA RESEARCH CORPORATION (DVARC)... more

Pedal Against PTSD, in partnership with the Dallas VA Research Corporation (DVARC), is proud to announce our new Grinder Charity Ride Series. This ride series has been developed together with DVARC to raise proceeds that go back to the VA for research and development purposes. Pedal Against PTSD is in a unique and differentiating position now with this partnership. It puts Pedal Against PTSD in the driver’s seat to direct funds at the VA towards projects we feel are important, namely projects that focus on the impacts of exercise and healthy living with respect to veterans suffering from PTSD. We are extremely excited about the relationship and the positive impact we will bring to the VA and ultimately to our veterans.

RIDE INFORMATION

Our inaugural ride will take place in Sanger, TX on June 11, 2016. This is going to be a 100k ride with alternate half and short routes providing options for riders that want to avoid the pain (enjoyment) of the full 100k. In true grinder fashion, our route will be traversing the dirt roads of North Texas between Sanger and Decatur during one of the hottest months of the year. But don’t worry, we will have tons of assistance from a swarm of volunteers that will make the experience as comfortable as a gravel grinder can be!

Plan on an exciting event for a wonderful cause. We will provide updates on our Facebook page in real time and post any major updates as well on the website as we iron out the details over the next several months. Many thanks to the Dallas VA Research Corporation for their support. We look forward to bringing on other sponsors and volunteer organizations throughout the next several months of planning.

Who We Are

Kids Across Cultures is a non-profit organization caring for children around the world in life changing ways. Like you, we are parents, educators, professionals, students, laborers and the like, who desire to look beyond ourselves and make a difference in this world. For a child to have no clean water, not enough food, no educational opportunities, or medical care is simply not acceptable. We are committed to creating change.

The current Board of Directors for Kids Across Cultures is a group of common people with an uncommon passion for making a difference in the lives of others. A working Board, each member serves as a volunteer in order to assure more resources are available for the children.

Why We Ride

Kids Across Cultures cares about kids. If you rode the “Pepper” in previous years (Tour De Agua is formerly known as the Tour De Pepper), know that you made a difference in this world. Proceeds from previous rides had far reaching impact! Kids Across Cultures, along with your help, was able to provide hunger relief to the Horn of Africa, and Tarahumara Indians in Mexico, give educational opportunities for trafficked children in S.E. Asia, and provide mosquito nets for thousands of kids in Zanzibar who are susceptible to malaria. These were just a few of the ways the Tour de Pepper made a difference. THANK YOU riders & sponsors! By riding the Tour De Agua, you become part of a cycle of change!

Consider making the trip to Seguin, Texas in 2016 to honor our beloved pastor, father, husband and friend, David Eikenburg, who died tragically in a cycling accident on July 11, 2005. ... moreHe died doing what he loved, but his first love and passion was to share the love of Jesus. Every year we honor him with this bike ride, remembering what he loved, and then to glorify God by continuing David's legacy and passion for spreading the Good News to people everywhere. Proceeds go to Trinity Oaks.

The date for our 11th annual ride will be held Saturday July 16, 2016. You can get involved even if you don't cycle. We are always in need of donations and volunteers, so please let us know if you would be interested in serving God through this ministry.

Rest stops will be located every 10-15 miles on each route. They will be stocked with water, gatorade, fruit, pickles, cookies and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. You are sure to be greeted with a smile and encouraging words to get you through the rest of your ride. Rest Stops will be open until the last rider of the group has made it through to that particular rest stop.

Our Good Samaritans (SAG wagons) will patrol the routes to transport riders in need to either the next available rest stop or back to the church. There will be a mechanic at the church available to fix minor bicycle repairs before the ride starts. Please be prepared to fix your own flats. Air pumps will be available at each rest stop.

At 4:00 pm we will do a final street sweep to pick up any riders that are still on the route and have not made it back to the church yet. This is to ensure a safe return to the church for all riders.

Homemade breakfast tacos will be provided for all riders before the ride starting at 6:00 am. After you have completed your designated route, we will also provide a free lunch for all riders beginning at 11:00 am. Rest assure you will not go home hungry.

The 2016 Hotter’N Hell Hundred Endurance Ride will be Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016. We will have Mountain Bike Racing on Friday, August 26, 2016 and USA Cycling Criterium races on Friday, ... moreAugust 26th and Sunday, August 28, 2016. We will host the Hotter’N Hell Hundred, USA Cycling Road Races on Saturday, August 27, 2016. Sunday morning HHH will host the half marathon trail run that makes up the final third of the weekend Triple Threat Extreme Challenge. For those that are interested in the Trail Run but not a half marathon, Sandy will also offer a 10k on the WeeChiTah Trail.

The Hotter’N Hell Hundred celebrated its 34th annual ride in 2015. The event was a huge success with over 13,000 registered participants along with the largest Consumer Show and Finish Line Village in the history of the HHH.

The Hotter’N Hell Hundred grew out of efforts to find a special way for Wichita Falls to celebrate its centennial in 1982. Roby Christie of the Wichita Falls Bicycle Club proposed a bicycle ride – 100 miles in 100 degree heat to celebrate 100 years. The original HHH committee promoted the idea as a unique and fitting event to honor the spirit of Texoma and the people who first settled the area. A consulting company from New York City had proposed a rocking chair marathon, but after lengthy discussion the Centennial Committee agreed with the HHH committee that early settlers were not rocking chair people. Gritty people capable of riding 100 miles in Texoma heat was a more fitting symbol of the tenacity of our early settlers. Mark and Jo-Alice Davis, now of Weatherford Texas, coined the name, Hotter’N Hell Hundred. The rest is Hotter’N Hell History. Some of the original committee members have moved on but Roby and many others remain involved in planning and implementing the event in each of its now 34 years. The committee started with 7 people and is now in excess of 100.

During the first year of HHH, there were 1200 riders. Endurance cycling was relatively new to Texas but 1200 riders celebrated the first year as the largest single day 100-mile ride in the nation. The HHH committee has been a constant pupil in the school of hard knocks. Rest stops during the first year were operated by members of the Good Sam’s RV Club. On-board water, toilets and built-in shade made these RV land yachts appear to be the perfect mobile rest stop. The bicycling event emptied the water tanks, filled the toilet tanks and wore out the small crew of volunteers. Tired or not, the Good Sam’s remained an important part of road support for many years.

Ever wonder where the CamelBak hydration pack originated? Well, it was at the 1988 Hotter’N Hell Hundred right here in Wichita Falls, Texas! Click on the link to visit their site.http://www.camelbak.com/Sports-Recreation/About-Us/Our-Story.aspx

The early years of medical support would be a nightmare for current day medical volunteers. There was one medical unit at the finish line. Nowadays there are MASH units at each rest stop and at the finish. Medical volunteers treat everything from bees embedded in rider’s ears, to emu bites, road rash, under hydration, over hydration and hard landings.

The Hotter’N Hell grew geometrically for several years. The Hotter’N Hell Hundred is still the largest single day 100 mile bicycle ride in the nation – and one of the largest in the world. In 2015 more than 13,000 registrants again participated in the Hotter’N Hell Hundred weekend events.
