A Late January Ride!! Bundle-Up Accordingly!! Join us for this new/old route in the relatively flat expanses of east Central Texas. A nice Hutto ride going north to Granger, then heading ... moreeast to cross the scenic Granger Dam (stopping for a photo op?), returning to Hutto thru Taylor. We'll ride through the quiet farm/ranch lands of northeast Williamson County. We'll travel on some quiet country roads (some are "vintage" chip seal and a little bumpy---air up your ties accordingly!) doing a steady "B" paced (14-17 mph) no-drop ride, with re-grouping as needed at the next turn.
With the forecasted cool weather, we can choose from (or stop at both) 2 store stops: in Granger at 22 miles & in Taylor (the Shell across from Murphy Park) at 45 miles. Total climbing is under 1400 ft. (per RIDEwithGPS)

NOTE I: I do not have maps of this route, but good Q-sheets will be provided and the RIDEwithGPS link is provided here for downloading.

NOTE II: Helmets are required on ALL Bike Austin rides.

Come with you & your equipment ready to ride 60 miles, in time to get signed-in and participate in the starter's meeting at 8:15 AM, for a prompt roll-out at 8:30 AM---moving the start time up, for the earlier day light/sun rise timing.

If you are not familiar with our ride catagories; please see the following 2 sights to insure you are matched for this ride:

http://www.austincycling.org/self_paced_and_hosted

http://www.austincycling.org/hosted_ride_descriptors

For all those interested (all are invited), we'll have choices for coffee, conversation, and/or lunch afterwards at: Hutto's "Notorious" Texan Cafe, Chili's, or the Rio Grande Tex-Mex restaurants.

Meet at Hutto's Fritz Park on the NE side of Hutto. From Hwy 79 in Hutto go north 0.25 miles on FM 1660 and turn right onto E. Live Oak St. Drive 0.2 miles and turn left into the parking lot (ride start map location attached).
Rest Rooms are open/available at Fritz Park. We then have easy access to Hutto's bike path.

Check this posting ride day morning in case of a weather cancellation.

We will ride down the east side of town to McKinney Falls, then come back on the west side. Most of the route is on bike lanes and/or quiet streets, but there is some urban riding. ... moreThere are several stretches of rolling hills and/or short moderately steep hills. There are no hills very hard in themselves, but the cumulative effect can be grueling for some riders. The average speed will be 13-15 mph, with perhaps a couple of intervals of sustained 18-20mph.

This ride starts at the Peddler Bike Shop, 5015 Duval St Austin, Tx 78751. Please arrive 10 minutes before ride start for sign-in and safety briefing. This is a no drop ride and we will regroup at turns and hilltops as necessary. Contact Fran Gale, frangale226@gmail.com or 512 431-2631

Due to road construction south of Kyle, we'll be checking out the last few miles to the Park, may turn around early; we'll get as far as we can. A Zone 3 (on a scale of 1-5) ride; ... moreall base miles. Hammerheads will be allowed to ride off the front; we won't chase you! Ride starts in town, but gets out into the country. No big hills, no hot spots, no sprints. Store stops in Buda (17 mi), Kyle (40 mi), others as needed. Coffee and conversation afterwards at Mozart's.
Please be sure to arrive a little early for rider's meeting and to meet newcomers. If you arrive at 9:01 you may find an empty parking lot.

In future we may stretch this ride out to San Marcos (75 miles) for those wanting to ramp up their mileage. Watch this space!

START LOCATION: In the uphill parking lot, across the street from Mozart's. We meet near the old boat.
